Shravan Mass Pooja Vidhi starts with the Shiva’s Abhishek with ghee, honey, milk, curd etc. followed by the offering of Belpatra and Lotus flowers. Then, Datura, Bhang and Shriphal are offered. Devotees also put Vibhuti or holy ash on Shiva’s forehead. The most important part is providing Ganga Jal to Shivlinga, which helps in attaining moksha (salvation).
The main vrat or fast kept by devotees during the month of Shravan is Shravan Somvar Vrat. The Shravan Mass Vrat Vidhi involves worship of Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva along with the chanting of ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ or ‘Maha Mritunjaya Mantra’. The vrat is kept from sunrise to sunset. Some devotees perform partial fast by eating fruits.
Northern states like Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and the like observe Shravana month 15 days before the Southern states like Goa, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and the like. This leads to different dates of celebration. People performing Shravan Monday Pooja are blessed with the fulfillment of their desires.
